Soldeu has benefited most from the investment. The Riba Escorxada beginners' area is larger than before and a fast chairlift has been installed to the Tossal de la Llosada, opening up good red runs in the bowl below. The link to Canillo is included on the Soldeu lift pass and the Rossinyol blue run is worth the trek. New this year is a five-day ski workshop in Soldeu to hone techniques with video analysis. Call 376 851 538; price e189. Check out El Tarter for its Disney themed kids' area: you might see Tigger skiing.
Pas de la Casa's strength is its wide-open, cruising red slopes and ski area of 100km. Arinsal's funnel-shaped ski area makes it ideal for keeping an eye on the children. The resort is also targeting boarders with a freestyle area covering 40,000 square metres, including a permanent boardercross, fun boxes and a quarter pipe.
Next door, Pal is virtually all tree skiing - picturesque and a good choice when visibility drops. Arcalis, a smaller resort, has the country's toughest skiing but no accommodation.
